- What is Adventures for Wilderness?
Adventures for Wilderness (“A4W”) is AWA’s annual program in celebration of wilderness, wildlife and people who care in Alberta. It is a challenge open to everyone to create an “Adventure”. Participants in an Adventure will use the Adventure to raise funds for AWA. They will either sponsor themselves, or invite friends and family to sponsor them to raise the funds. - What activities qualify as an Adventure?
Almost any activity will qualify – something that relates in some way to wilderness and wildlife and people that care is ideal. It can take place outside or indoors.Examples are:- Hiking, mountaineering and backpacking
- Cycling
- Skiing and snowshoeing
- Canoeing and paddle boarding
- Wildlife observation such as birding or animal photography
- Learning more about wilderness and wildlife
- Doing practical things to help wilderness and wildlife flourish
- Stair climbing
- Wilderness-themed trivia challenge night
- Stroller walk
- …and any number of other possibilities

- How can I participate in Adventures for Wilderness?
There are 3 ways to get involved in Adventures for Wilderness: - How do I become a Coordinator of a new Adventure?
Decide on your Adventure and register it here. Adventures typically take one of two forms: Often the public will be able to join a registered Adventure. However, if you want to limit Participants to specific people, you should remove the tick mark on the “Open to Public Registrations” box. We will then contact you to make the appropriate arrangements. You will be asked to provide a short description of the adventure to go on the webpage, and be included in social media and other promotion that AWA will do for the Adventure. Likewise, if you have any photographs or other relevant images that we can use for promotion, you can upload them at this time. Where applicable, you should be prepared to provide some idea of when and where the Adventure is to take place. If some details still need to be decided, A4W staff will be happy to work with you to help develop your Adventure. - How do I join an existing Adventure as a Participant?
You can review the listing of Adventures here.Many of these will have spaces for new Participants to join the Adventure. You will need to complete the form and the waiver. You will also need to provide the fundraising amount set by the Coordinator. This can be raised through either self-sponsorship or getting sponsorship for the Adventure from friends, family and contacts and can be paid through our secure online service. The Adventure page will specify the minimum fundraising amount per Participant, and the expected fundraising for the Adventure as a whole. - How do I sponsor an Adventure or a Participant?
You can sponsor an Adventure or a Participant here. - Where does the Adventure need to take place?
Adventures can take place anywhere you decide. The nature of the Adventure and its location is up to the Coordinator. - Will I be required to sign a waiver of liability?
Yes, when you register as a Coordinator or as a Participant you will required to sign a waiver of liability in order to complete your registration. - Will there be any prizes?
Yes. There will be prizes for the top fundraisers, sponsors and other contributors. Watch the prizes page for details. - Is there a Registration Fee?
No, there is no registration fee however, each Participant and Coordinator accepts the challenge of meeting a minimum fundraising obligation. - Is there a tax receipt for donations?
In general all fundraising donations and sponsorships for Adventures for Wilderness will be sent a charitable donation receipt for income tax purposes. There may be some exceptions; these will be clearly indicated. - Is there a minimum fundraising obligation?
Each Adventure has a minimum fundraising obligation set by the Coordinator at the time the Adventure is registered. The Coordinator should use their best efforts to ensure donations reach the minimum. - Will Adventures be affected by Pandemic Restrictions?
All Adventures will comply with pandemic restrictions.We will observe COVID-19 precautions and guidance from the Government of Alberta and expect Participants to follow appropriate sanitizing and social distancing.
