Experience of hiking in the Rockies and a suitable level of fitness are important for this hike.

The climb up to the ridge from the Elbow valley is steep and unrelenting. The altitude gain is approximately 680 metres (2,230 feet). Once on the ridge the ground is undulating with small climbs and descents. There is a good trail going up the ridge but on the ridge there is essentially no trail. The ridge is mostly covered in short grass but there are places where there are exposed rocks (known as patterned ground) which will make the footing uneven and walking harder. This is quite difficult if the weather is wet.

Reaching and climbing the ridge will take about 2.5 hours. We will spend about 2 hours walking along the ridge and about 1 hour for lunch at a suitable vantage point on the ridge. We will return the same way. The distance we walk along the ridge will depend on the wishes of the group.

Meeting time is 9 am. The group should be back at the meeting place by 5:30 – 6 pm. Directions to the meeting point will be given to registered participants in advance of the event.
